Re-Publication of Digital Facsimiles

  • Need to re-publish all digital facsimile, because of the age of the presentation
    • delivery of static jpg-files
    • no zoom, no other image manipulation possible
  • Some digital facsimile had been published as IIIF in the course of the project Manuscripts from German-Speaking Lands – A Polonsky Foundation Digitization Project → test implementation
  • Re-structuring of image storage
    • grouping by object type (mss, prints, etc) and shelf mark
    • more than one disc lead to possible multiple digitisation
  • Re-grouping into subcollections according to metadata information
  • from → /master/mss01/mss/27-6-poet-1/00001.tif
    to → /images/mss/27-6-poet/2005_standard_original/27-6-poet_00001.jp2

Structuring the IIIF manifests

  • more than one sequence and/or range
    • grouped by metadata combination
  • more than one image per canvas
  • „reconstruction“ of volumes (re-arrange, virtual binding)

Sachsenspiegel_online

  • example Cod. Guelf. 3.1 Aug. 2, the „Wolfenbüttel Sachsenspiegel“
  • Digital Edition Sachsenspiegel online (2004, SQL + Java)
  • The functionality comprised hovering transcription, et al.

Sachsenspiegel_online new: Indizes

  • Due to the lack of a publication plattform, the implementation as IIIF is (again) just a proof of concept
  • Does anybody implement IIIF Content Search API?

Sachsenspiegel_online new: IIIF

  • Transcription, translation, and image annotations are specified as annotations.
  • Regions in the image have been preserved.

IIIF in Digital Editions

  • Other digital editions will use IIIF to include images
  • A dedicated annotation server is not (yet) planned
  • Some editions acquire their transcription using HTR (so far Transkribus, switch to eScriptorium due to FAIRness is planned)
    → a more common text-image-linking is possible/desirable
